As the role of Physician Assistants in Ontario continues to evolve, having a strong collective voice matters.
When PAs became regulated by the CPSO in April 2025, OPAA was ready. Our collective agreement with seven Ontario hospitals included a formal job classification evaluation to ensure PA compensation was reviewed in light of regulation, growing professional responsibilities, and the scope and accountability of our work.
OPAA, together with CAPA and PACCC, developed a comprehensive submission documenting the education, clinical responsibilities, autonomy, decision-making, leadership, and working conditions of hospital-based PAs.
When the results of the hospitals’ evaluations did not adequately reflect the PA role for most of our members, OPAA chose to challenge those outcomes through arbitration. We are in the middle of those proceedings, and we expect the results of the arbitration sometime in the Spring of 2027.
